The notion that Olympians are famous millionaires in the same way that NBA or NFL players are is a pernicious myth. While a small handful of athletes in select sports may find lucrative endorsements, the vast majority of Olympians and Olympic hopefuls are anonymous individuals in the eyes of the public. They struggle to make ends meet and many of them even live below the poverty line, unable to work full time jobs due to their training demands.
